[Trail of Cthulhu] The Big Hoodoo (Part I)

It's that time of year again - time to return to some horror gaming, courtesy this session of "The Big Hoodoo" for Trail of Cthulhu.

The Order take on the personae of real-life folks active in the science-fiction scene of the 1950s, investigating the death of rocket scientist, occultist, and sci-fi fan Jack Parsons in June of 1952.

  1. I love when Jen runs a game. She sounds so scandalized by the shit her NPC's say and do. Excellent stuff.

  2. Thank you Miika. I am trying my best to learn how to run games so I can have even more fun with my friends! I appreciate your positive remarks. Jen out.

    1. You have a very unique style of presenting your characters and NPC's. Quite different from what I'm sure many come to expect from the average player/gm. I suspect it's just your personality coming through and it's a lot of fun to listen to from both ends of the table.

  3. Wow. There sure are a lot of NPCs in that adventure. I'm impressed that you guys can keep track of all of them. I guess you guys are probably taking notes?

Also, I'm going to toss out a game I've been looking at recently that I think has some mechanics you guys might find interesting. If you go over to Tony Dowler's website (planet-thirteen.com), he's got a free beta of a game called Principia: Secret Wars of the Renaissance. It has a mechanic whereby players can pose or invoke philosophical questions during play to get bonus dice, and at the end of the game, the questions are answered based on how they were invoked, and these answers decide the post-game fate of the world. You can imagine a soldier PC saving the day in game, but a question Does a Man Prove His Worth in War? might be answered No, so perhaps he kills himself after the game.

I don't know - there's a certain amount of lack of control or fate there that makes me think of you guys.

  4. Okay, that was a delightful 20's romp back to the days of scenery chewing. I thought Jen got excited as a player, but she seems bursting with enthusiasm with this game. Plus she did everyone a solid and took a moment to make sure the players weren't going to - presumably - TPK themselves through reckless action. Thoughtful-like.
