[Pendragon] The Great Pendragon Campaign: Year 553 - The Persistence of Memory

We kick off this session with the brief return of an old favorite before bringing in the usual suspects at the Pentecost feast. Magical swords, amnesiac knights, and tough decisions all figure this year as the Wastelands continue to exert their fell grip on the land.

Featuring:

Jade
Dave S.
Des
Renae
Jen
And...Edie the Dog

The campaign's wiki can be found here.

  1. I only know one living knight not currently played, so that means Cynrain's back in action. Did he hear about the Saxons, I wonder? More importantly, can Cynrain hold his own at his advanced age? Wulfram fought into his 50s with his vaunted 'old man strength', so I am most interested to see how he does nowadays.

    Alas Wulfram

    1. Well, if you remember Cynrain fought valiantly at the Battle of Badon Hill along side Sir Wulfram while being older. Cynrain is literally powered by raw Glory and can compete with the best of knights.

  2. Edie's back! And so is background music! And the epitome of Old Man Strength himself! The three young upstart knights who were debating who would take on an 86-year-old man all agreed that there was no way they were going to win that fight. I really hope he takes Leander under his wing. That boy needs some good parental advice, even if all of it centres around horse breeding.

It's also perfect that Sigebryht makes himself as quiet and unnoticeable as possible whenever Cynrain's around. It prevents Jade from talking to herself during sessions, which is good, but is also perfectly in character with both of them: Sigebryht is too filled with self-loathing to dare interrupt his noble grandfather-in-law, and Cynrain has too much Hate (Saxons) to notice his grandson-in-law. Probably.

Here's an idea for the Save Logres Committee: Have Cynrain impregnate Guinevere. If anyone can do it, it's clearly him.

    1. You were probably overcome with the majesty and/or the pants-wetting terror of the sight of Cynrain. Although it was actually the perfect image that was being conjured up because you have Arthur and Cynrain standing side by side, with the King too weak to get off of his Throne, and the octogenarian fresh from his morning horse-surfing whose child-fathering status had just been discussed.

I'm sure it would have occurred to you over the Winter Phase...

  3. by the way, the Battle of Badon Hill could EASILY work as a medieval age Call of Cthulhu adventure. I'm considering doing it myself!

  4. I daresay this was an excellent session. Seeing Cynrain is always exciting. Though I think at this point it is official that he is basically immortal and will never die of old age. This session was full of great moments as the Knights kicked ass from start to finish. It also sets up my dream fight that being Cynrain vs. Lancelot which will be epic if it actually happens.

    1. You know, there was that monument from decades back that said the two greatest knights in the world would fight before it. Perhaps someone should go check on it, and not in the process ironically trigger that very prophecy.

I think if you're going by Glory it's possible - though by no means guaranteed - that Lancelot has now passed Cynrain. The only other options for that monument would be Tristram, Percivale, or Leander (the tapestry makes a compelling arguement).

Do a Merlin candle check while you're out there. And see if you can pull the sword that was submerged in a block of stone. And see if there's writing on the Dolorous Chair. Visit all the old prophecy monuments!

  5. Frankly, I'm just stunned that Sir Slightly-More-Than-14-Hit-Points survived that melee. Taking two normal hits in one round after quite a few rounds of being worn down. I wouldn't be surprised to see a knight with normal hit points fall in such a situation. But I guess he's got the devil's own luck. Sort of. Maybe he's a witch. I mean, how else could some commoner get made into a knight? Maybe one of his parents was a witch!

But yes, a fine bit of adventure. Riding around fighting giants, wyrms, and knights. Be just like old times if it turned out they were all from Malahaut.

  6. Great episode even with all the recording troubles. The recording style was strange, almost surround sound style, where I could pinpoint how you were seated at the table. Kinda fun. Almost like I was sitting, eyes closed, in the middle of it. It was a little hard to follow at times when there was a lot of noise around me, but when I was alone and in a quiet spot it was fun.

The adventure itself was fun too. I love me some good behind the scenes private sessions action and with Cynrain no less. Nice!

  7. I'm not sure why, but this episode crashed over a dozen times for me, on two different computers, using both Firefox and Chrome on each machine. I think the technical gremlins must have moved out of the equipment and taken up residence in the recording!

    1. Good grief, what a star-crossed session!

I did some spot checking on the streaming link as well as downloading the currently-uploaded MP3 and haven't encountered any problems myself--whereabouts does it crash for you?

Regardless, I'll try re-uploading the MP3 file just to be on the safe side.

    2. It crashed about every 10-15 minutes, so there was no specific place that was at fault. And I assume I'm the jinx, not the episode!

Anyway, I'm loving the game. I'm going to be sad when it wraps up, but you've given me incredible inspiration for my own Pendragon hack -- now I just need to wedge a massive game into my group's schedule...
