Ah, but not for ladies! Marriage is their primary avenue to Glory, so there's no cap. From the "Lady's Glory" rules on Greg Stafford's Pendragon site: "First Marriage: 1000 after the wedding (husband does not get equal points). PLUS Glory equal to her husband’s."
Hmmmm... I thought that Book of the Entourage, p38, took precedence: "Glory for Marriage Both a wife and her husband gain Glory equal to the spouse’s Glory, up to a maximum of 1000."
But that is why I won't apply to replace the rules minion.
BTW - Cynrain is quite the stud and may end up the father of his country before his death.
I really like Lady Seren's dilemma last night...
Hopefully this doesn't end as a double post. This site doesn't like me.
Thank you for all the entertainment you've supplied.
Cynrain could have certainly been the father of Rydycham, but Jade has commented on her surprise that he keeps making the rolls needed to stay faithful.
I did check though that based on the bonus Seren got to recognise Lancelot he is still less glorious than Cynrain by about 9,000 points. That was nice to know.
Ooh, good catch Darren! As you can tell, I'm running off something of a hodge-podge of rules culled from Greg's site and the latter books. If I were to start the GPC over again, I'd be using the books exclusively.
Hopefully we'll see a KAP 6.0 sometime in the future to get all these developments under one cover. Right now, I'm somewhat reminded of my days of running AD&D 2e in the mid-90s, when there were multiple versions of the rules floating around depending on what sources you chose to include. It's not a bad thing, per se, but a unified rulebook would be nice all the same.
I think you kind of have to give ladies the opportunity for some extra glory in marriage. Otherwise, there's no real difference between marrying Sir Lancelot and Sir Not-Appearing-in-this-Podcast. They're both knights, so they both have over 1000 glory.
Also, I don't know if you've ever seen the video that came with the old Dragonstrike board game (it's a fantastic representation of a D&D game), but there's a scene where a thief confronts an owlbear and the elf suggests she try flattering it. That is what I was imagining when Seren attacked that guard.
Someone like Cynrain is definitely a game-breaking example, and probably the reason why "Entourage" imposed that 1,000 Glory cap.
At the end of the day, though, the vast majority of knights are in the 2,000-4,000 Glory range, so it doesn't bother me too much. And, after all, a lady who marries a famous knight deserves to become just as famous as her spouse (viz. Will and Kate, Charles and Diana, George and Wallis, etc., etc.).
"I wanted to let you guys play the damsels in distress", said to the people who could not stop trying to shank everyone inside of that castle. Saren only stopped because she thought the process of dragging someone to the ground and stabbing them death was taking too long.
I think Sawel and Septima would be a really great couple, partially because of their hilariously misunderstood meet cute, but mostly because they seem to be the two angriest people in Logres at the moment. They both refuse to take anyone else's crap, and it's so much fun to listen to.
Also what a really interesting pair of plot hooks that got dropped towards the end there that weren't making me less-than-silently start raving to myself while at work. Perhaps they might be worth following up on! Not that Fisher King one though. I'm fairly confident nothing bad is going to happen from that.
Speaking of Cynrain's glory, I think new knights should have to make roll on the first sight of beholding Cynrain. If they succeed they should get an admire passion and if they fail they should get a negative passion of some kind.
Yeah, all of Dave's characters are well characters. I was interested to here how the "Archadian Saga" would have worked out if he killed Arthur. Though, Cynrain at this point is a legend so I thought it would be cool if he had a similar affect as Lancelot. As, if they are rated by Glory Cynrain actually has him beat.
I think everyone has their own house rules in just about every game and that is okay. Remembering every rule may be easy for some people but I know I am not one of them. I have been on the fence about the winter events table and feast event cards but I like the way they work with your group. The events table does slow down the start of your sessions but I can see how they help the game master come up with the B and C plots that personalize each player’s story. The feast cards have obviously captured your group of players. Sometimes it sounds you could get lynched for missing a feast. Did you ever post your burgher tables??
That's effing brilliant, Tom. Sounds like a real blast--I'll have to run the Order through a session one of these days. (I hear some sort of "Tournament Period" is coming up...)
The maximum glory from marriage in Pendragon is 1000. Where is the rules minion when you need him?

Wait, so does that mean Cynrain's new wife gained over 35,000 glory?!
DeleteCynrain is at the 39,000's now according to the Wiki. I'm imagining there was a LOT of competition to be his wife.
DeleteHe married his new wife in 532 so accounting for a few thousand less glory.

Correction: *Edward* and Wallis. Ahem.

Burgher/journeyman tables are still in a very funky spreadsheet. I need to clean them up and export them to a PDF!
DeleteIf you need any help, just let me know.
DeleteAs you can see I have lots of time. Talent maybe not so much....
