[Achtung Cthulhu] Into the Mouth of Truth

Section M wraps up its business in Vienna, but not before losing track of one of their own, thoroughly traumatizing a delivery boy, and earning a personal vendetta from a member of the Nazi party. And then it's on to the Eternal City, where things get very bloody indeed...

  1. Oh thank goodness someone went mad and was starting to saw their own hand off in horror. Things seemed to be going entirely too well for everyone, and I was worried we were never going to get back to the Cthulhu/imminent doom side of things. I wonder when Section M is going to piece together that "Riley running off to do something off-screen" is code for "Things are about to go pear-shaped".

Also I too have had to resist the lure of a GM to remind my players that the person they just violently murdered (albeit not violently murdered with a book) happened in-game very recently, and it wouldn't be appropriate to start asking questions about this highly suspicious death most people don't know about yet.

    1. I think we just wanted to make sure our good works didn't go unnoticed.

But between these characters and our Pendragon characters....pretty sure we're going to cause way more damage now that we have access to a flamethrower.

    2. edit: now that *Jade* has access to a flamethrower.

    3. Hey, if there's one of you I would trust to act responsibly with a flamethrower - and there isn't - it would be Jade. Anyone else would use it immediately out of love of burning things, impatience, streaks of sudden cruelty, or fumbling and having it explode on them.

Still it sure was nice of David to come up with a perfectly coherent background for your flamethrower that might also make it a German artifact that can be magically turned against you in a critical moment. Generous!

  2. I would just like to say that I'm so glad someone made the Keeping Up Appearances joke.

Well, that and that, in any just world, the gentlemen's club scene would have devolved into Dave and Jade's characters having to disguise themselves as women for one reason or another.

  3. The bridge that connects Tiber Island to downtown Rome has been standing for about 2000 years, so I don't think there's much to worry about with regard access to the hospital.

I don't recall a Luck score in CoC when I played the game in the 80s, but it may just be my memory. Still, shouldn't CoC have a luck mechanic where any good luck you have turns out inevitably only to be preserving you for the final horrific revelation, despair, and disaster? I.e., all good luck is really bad luck.
