It's been a long-standing tradition among certain of the more august members of the Esoteric Order to do up a big horror gaming extravaganza around Halloween every year. Since time immemorial, this event has been referred to as the "Call-of-Cthulhu-a-thon"...even if no actual CoC is run that day.
Last year, we did one big six-hour scenario. This year we decided to go for the "rock festival" approach and offer several smaller scenarios over the course of a day and let folks filter in and out as the mood struck them.
The third and final scenario, run by David S., is a homebrew for World of Darkness: Innocents based on a nightmare he had recently.
Fair warning: the fact that this came at the end of a long day of tense horror gaming and near-constant junk food snacking, along with all of us getting into the characters of playing 12-year-olds, made for some pretty punchy gameplay. Still and all, lots of creeptastic fun was to be had. Enjoy!

I realise it's a Halloween session, but I'm still not quite sure where the Werewolf fit into things. Was this a Cabin in the Woods type scenario where there were lots of different childhood movie villains you were prepared to unleash depending on their actions?
ReplyDeleteIt was a more truncated version of Stephen King's IT, actually. The basic conceit there is that the creature takes on the form of what is in the mind of its prey. The werewolf was actually improv, based on their prior conversation of punching werewolves in the balls.
DeleteThe Stanford uniform was to try to creep out Larkins, and a blatant rip of the original story.
My working theory was that we were in some sort of dream reality, where our fears were being made manifest, so the Stanford werewolf made total sense to me--in fact, that was the first clue as to what seemed to be going on.
DeleteMy first grade class room (1980) had a private bathroom and so did my children's class rooms (2007 & 2010).
ReplyDeleteCounterpoint: The Kindergarten class in Kindergarten Cop (1990) did not.
DeleteMine did not, regretfully. In some grades I had to traverse staircases to achieve the bathroom. Whole staircases!
DeleteNone of mine did either, and now I'm totally having a flashback to the daily ritual of lining up to troop down to the bathroom, and then waiting in line outside and taking turns going in. School is so weird.
DeleteI think my kindergarten had a bathroom, but not my first grade.
ReplyDeleteA nice trio of Halloween games. You guys must have been busy - three 2-3 hour games, and it sounds like you switched locations at some point during the day.
